Hello!
I share everything I found that can help you become a better Godot game maker!
It’s free, and I take sponsorships (so far, I haven’t had a single sponsor, but that doesn’t discourage me!).
I even made a system to curate all this data one can gather in a week using Curated.co API, IFTTT, and Airtable.
I’m trying to do it at as little cost as possible. So far, I only pay the IFTTT Pro+ tier.
And today I learned that I used that Airtable API too much. How much? Well, the free tier allows you to call the API 1,000 times. That’s a lot, I guess. Well, apparently I used it 9,880 already…
The fine people at Airtable informed me about a grace period, but after that, I will just be blocked from the API… And then every month like this. Which makes Godot Weekly unable to proceed. I’m grateful to Airtable for not adding me automatically to a pricing tier and just blocking API for me. At least I won’t go bankrupt.
As a note, I just want to say, that all these calls are only about Godot Weekly. I do not use Airtable API for anything else.
What next, you add?
Well, I have some options…
Find something to replace Airtable with. Not sure if it’s possible, every tool costs money in the end, and not sure whether I'd be able to adjust it to my system's needs.
Close Godot Weekly.
Raise $24 monthly to cover expenses for an Airtable Team tier, which will give me 100,000 calls to the API per month.
Thing is… I can’t afford $24 per month.
I don’t want Godot Weekly to be paid. Seriously, I’m sharing free data with you, I’m not going to paywall them ;-)
Not to mention that I was thinking about turning this newsletter to a info product!
Just imagine, a database (maybe Notion this time) containing all gathered data, but more curated (like removing weaker content, if I have a better replacement) which would become an even better source of Godot tutorials for people to learn!
